The earliest records available show that the Club
existed in 1880, but it may have originated even
earlier than this. The Club started playing their
matches on the golf course links at Alnmouth, on
an area between the football pitch, the fountain
and 8th fairway. It remained there until 1967 when
it moved to its present ground, which is situated
between the villages of Hipsburn and Alnmouth.
Tennis Courts before the First World War and still in use as such until after the Second World War.It was then used by the Sea Scouts as their HQs and named HMS Colllingwood.
Cricket began in May 1968, the first ball being
bowled by the then President Brigadier Sir George
Walton. A hard working, pro-active committee ably
led by Mr Tom Bond made this move, as well as other
developments possible. The ground and facilities
have been improved over the years, the Clubhouse
especially having had several improvements and
extensions, work that has been mainly undertaken
by members and friends of the Club. The latest
improvement, (and hopefully the last for some time)
was completed in March 2004 and has made it a very
comfortable and cosy environment. The ground too,
has been improved and extended over the past 37
years, again through the dedication and hard work
of members and the local community.
Records
show that the Club has played in the Dunstanburgh,
Alnwick & District and Northumberland Leagues
during their history. Throughout the fifties and
sixties the Club played many friendly fixtures,
as Alnmouth was a popular venue for visiting teams
from Tyneside. The men played cricket, while their
families enjoyed a day at the seaside.
2005 sees the 1st eleven playing in the Northumberland
Premier League for the 1st time in their history
after winning the A Division title last season,
along with the Barlow Cup. The 2nd eleven will
again compete in the Alnwick and District League.
A successful junior section over the past 15 years
has seen the Club reap its rewards, with more than
half the current 1st eleven being made up of local
lads who have come through the ranks.
Junior practices ,under the supervision of qualified ECB coaches , takes place on Friday evenings from 6:00 pm.
Senior practices takes place on Tuesday evenings from 6:00pm.
Anyone interested in cricket, either playing,
watching or just to meet with friendly company
for a sociable drink are always welcome.
